A winter weather advisory has been posted for my area. So I am sitting with a cup of tea thinkingabout how much fun it will be to get out and toboggan in the fresh snow. But for now I am looking at spending sometime getting caught up on some paper work.

While you are preparing your Christmas Cards have yourlittle one-draw pictures for your friends and family to be included in thisyears cards.

Broadmoor Hotel

Had a customer call from Chicago. She and her husband are traveling to Colorado Springs for a business meeting at the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs. She rented an infant swing for her little one. The Broadmoor staff are wonderful. They stored the equipment until their guest arrived then arranged for the infant swing and infant bath to be delivered to their room. What great service.

House Bound with Your Little One

Why not have a special picnic today.

After breakfast have the children help you clear the table.

Find some old blankets and sheets.

Now it is time to construct your picnic tent.

Let the children design their own tent using the table and chairs to hold up the blankets and sheets.

Throw pillows make great chairs.

Next it is time to prepare the picnic.

Ask the children what they want.

Sandwiches-peanut butter/ham/turkey

Vegetable: Carrot sticks and cucumber slices

Drink-Water bottles with a splash of soda.

Dessert: Fruit-cut up apples and grapes

Get the children to help you prepare the picnic.

Pack the picnic in carry bags.

Now it is time to pack your picnic lunch and go for a hike around the house.

Along the way have the children tell you what is special about each room you visit.

Let the children invite there toys to the picnic.

End your hike at the kitchen table tent and enjoy a picnic lunch.

After the children have helped clean up they can have quite time in the kitchen table tent.

Car Seat Law in Colorado

Traveling to Colorado and wondering what the law is regarding your child in a car.

Here are the regulation which have been updated as of August 1st 2010

Colorado state law makes it the driver's responsibility to make sure that all children in the vehicle are properly buckled in a seat belt or car seat on every trip. All car seats must be labeled as meeting FMVSS 213 standards. Car seats available in

U.S.

stores should already be labeled as such.

The state car seat law for Colorado has changed as of August 1, 2010. The new laws gives parents more flexibility in choosing the type of car seat for younger children, and increases the age for mandatory booster seat use.

Colorado law requires that babies ride in a rear-facing car seat until they are one year of age and at least 20 pounds. Children ages one to four and between 20 and 40 pounds must ride in an appropriate rear- or forward-facing car seat.

Colorado law also requires that children who are over age 4 but under age 8 ride in a forward-facing car seat or a booster car seat, unless they are over 4'9" tall or weigh more than 80 lbs. Children who are not required to be in a car seat or booster seat, but are under 16 years old, must be buckled in a seat belt.

Double Bob Stroller

So now the days get shorter.
It doesn't seem fair. The warm weather is finally here.
Remember what made summer so special to you as a kid.
For me it was being able to stay out later and play with my friends. The rule at home was be in by dark.

Summer in Colorado

Today is the first day of summer.
Get out and enjoy the wonderful summer weather before it changes.
It has been hot here in Colorado so I would suggest getting out for a walk in the Garden of the God's early. Stop by they gift shop for a treat. Remember the hat and sun block.
After lunch when it starts to get really hot head to the library. You and your child can read a couple of books before picking out a DVD to take home.
At the Monument Library you can ask for a cup of duck food then head to the pond to feed the ducks and geese.
Enjoy the first day of summer 2010.

Looking for some things to do in the Pikes Peak area?

May 28th will find us taking the Grandchildren to the Sky Socks baseball game. http://coloradosprings.skysox.milb.com
The Sky Socks have a wonderful play area for young children. Then after the game FIREWORKS!What a great way to start the Memorial Day Weekend.

May 20th the Art Hop in Monument starts. The 3rd Thursday of the month Monument merchants will open there doors from 5 to 8. Stop at the Wisdom Tea House for a gelato (Italian Ice Cream). http://wisdomteahouse.com

June 14th the Colorado College Summer Music Festival is offering a free lunch time concert at Packard Hall. This is a nice way to introduce young children to classical music.

Kitchen Safety

When I was researching information for my blog today 'Kichen Safety' I came across this great link http://www.doityourself.com/stry/kitchensafetychild .
The Kitchen can be a place of great fun yet at the same time full of hidden dangers.
In my kitchen I have two corner cupboards with lazy Susie's. I love the convenience of the cupboard but when the grandchildren come to visit I make sure I put a chair in front of them because I can see those little fingers getting pinched.
Make sure all the outlets your little on can reach have covers on them-you don't want a fingers or toys being stuck in them. You can pick up covers from your local Walmart or Target. They come in packages of 12.
I like the children to play in the kitchen when I am there so all my lower cupboards are full of interesting play toys-my plastic containers, my pots and my large wooden spoons.
Stools are a necessity in my kitchen. Little people always want to know what you are doing so when they are on their special stool they are in one place and you can direct what they can touch and help with.
Enjoy your time in the kitchen.

March on the Front Range.Yesterday it was 60 degrees and today the forecast is calling for inches of snow by tonight.
I am glad my customer from Chicago is arriving before the snow. This way she can get her infant rental car seat into the car before the storm hits.
If you are in Old Colorado City March 27th check out the Easter Egg Hunt.
Bancroft Park in Old Colorado City is a great place to let little legs work of some energy. Then walk down West Colorado Ave and explore some of the shops and restaurants. I like to stop at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and watch them making the chocolates.

St Patrick's Day

I was at the post office yesterday, mailing the craft of the month.
This month’s theme is St Patrick's Day.
Lots of green shamrocks.
You can make St Patrick's Day fun also.
Green Cookies:
Pull out your favorite sugar cookie recipe.
Add a couple drops of green food coloring before baking.
Once baked let your little on decorate with green icing sugar and sprinkles.
Make sure you cover the table before you being this activity-it could get messy.
A glass of milk and home made cookies what a great snack.

Planning to visit Southern Colorado over Easter.
Granny's Traveling Closet will be adding cribs March 1st.
These cribs are by LA Baby. They are a folding crib made especially for commercial use. The finish is durable and non-toxic. Cleaning and Sanitizing will be a breeze. They meet the JPMA standards and also meet the new voluntary standards being put in place for cribs that are going to used in day cares, hotels and rental stores.
Can you tell I am excited about adding cribs to my inventory.

Craft of the Month Club

I sent my Grandchildren a heart shaped box to decorate and fill. I am hoping to get some pictures so I can post them.

Snow In Colorado

Yesterday we received about two inches of new snow.
What to do with snow?
Bring some into the house-use a water play table/the kitchen sink/a basin and just let your preschooler explore. You can provide cups and spoons. Let your little one make snowmen/snowballs/snow cars. When finished set a timer to see how long it will take the snow to melt.
You don't have a toboggan-use the lid to box to slid down a gentle hill.
When finished head to the house for a cup of hot chocolate.
Enjoy the snow-it will soon disappear.

What an amazing day.
Need to get out of the house-try exploring Palmer Park at Maizeland and Academy in Colorado Springs.
You can drive to the top and look over the downtown. You also get a wonderful view of the mountains.
Stop along the way and take a short hike-take along a plastic container to collect 'treasures'.
On the way down stop at the playground for snack and a run around.
Now you and your little one will be ready for nap.
In the afternoon you can take the 'treasures' you found on your hike and make a wonderful picture.
Enjoy your week.

Are your grandchildren coming to visit? Today would be a great day to pull out those games. The weather has turned and it looks like we are in for some snow. Sorry is a game that easy to explain yet can be a lot of fun. How about making a batch of those favorite chocolate chip cookies. A glass of milk and a warm cookie what could be better. Another idea is to pull out a chapter book and depending upon the age of your grandchild start to read to them. If they are older they can take turns reading.

Thinking of visiting Colorado Springs over the holidays? Remember to check out the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. My granddaughter just loved to feed the giraffes. The zoo has built a platform so you face to face with the giraffes. For a $1.00 you can buy food and hand feed the giraffes.
